March 25 Some updates to the restorationThe lost ZuneSo I was on Campus in Redmond working a with a great bunch of our internal Consulants and other technical folks , so to keep the troops entertained while they we doing labs and other stuff , my Zune became a usefull device to show those folks that Australian's make some great music from all genre's
Worked really well and the course was great , so i left in a hurry as you do in the last day - after a solid feeding at Meet the Man thanks to my mates Steve and Rick. get on the plane back to Aus ready to listen to some new tunes - wrong left the Zune in the classroom , plenty of emails later and she is gone - and Karma will seek revenge on he who has it now.
Oh well ebay is a great pplace and I have found a new one - and this one is black and cheap as well
July 31 The ramblings restartedSo its about time I updated my blog - to much hassament from my new work collegue Rob Costello- who regualry tells me to update the blog, so its restarting.
I might be slow to start I'm busy getting ready to delivery a couple of sessions at Microsoft Tech.ED on the Gold Coast around Windows client deployment with BDD 2007 and SMS - loads of fun
More importantly there's been loads of changes to my car restoration project - so iI need to sit down and show all - I think I'm doing Ok - Remember its not the destination its the journey
Cheers
AD February 26 The story continues I though the right hand (drivers side) would be a great place to start as I know theres a nasty hole down there that needs love and not really sure whats under it but it has to come out so that I can start.
As you can see from the before shot a bit of work to do so. you can imagine my surprise when I gut out the panel that it contained a new use for a Coke sign - looks like someone had decided in the past the the coke sign was about the right thickness steel and did a shonky job at fixing it.
So my first though was ouch what have i done - serious damge here - never the less we shall contiune as I have the replacement outer panel to fix - just need to fix the underneath
Any way Its going to look awesome when it finished but in the mean time its back to welding school this week ....... February 14 It beingsI thought it was about time I started to blog the restoration of the 1972 VH valiant Charger.
an interesting venture given that I have never been mechanically minded - have no idea how to restore an engine and this car is full of rust ( thats what you get for trusting a buyer on ebay without checking the car first)
but really this adventure is going to be fun - doing something out of the comfort zone - prove to the sceptics - you know who you are, that I can do this and at the end come away with a sense of achivement and a cool car to boot
In the Begining
It began with an ebay action item up for grabs is two 1972 vh chargers. One was supposped to be complete and the other was a rolling shell that was "ok"
so being some 1500KM away it made the inspection a little challenged so insert faith module 1.0 - ask the seller for more information about the cars and ask for more photos, sure was the response as the time on the auction and whays the rust like " oh only a little bit in the common areas....."
in reality insert photos of the rear boot lib, bonnet, passenger windows, rears windows door sills dog leg section and oh yeah the fist size hole in the boot floor.
but never the less i still continued ......
so my delima was how to cost effectivley get two cars home the result I didnt, I let the guy sell the rolling shell - i may regret that later well see
I am now the proud owner of a 1972 VH Valiant Charger and really its just what i wanted , did not spend a fortune to buy it,the rust sections are repairable and at the endof it all I will be able able to say restored a car and a charger no less
So a road trip to Penrith with Sam ( my boy) with a car trailer in tow 4 days round trip ,with a stop over in Batchurst NSW to take a drive around the race track ( that was fun) and my shed is now home to a project car !!!!!
So it now begins start with removing all known traces of rust and reparing ... need to do a course on welding now to make sure I dont fall into the bog trap - just use filler they say it will look fine !!!!!
bah humbug
more later
